The Business Crime team is continuing to work with police to tackle shoplifting and robberies. Regular patrols are being carried out, focusing on a number of offenders responsible for most of the crimes in our neighbourhood. During April we visited multiple businesses in the Angel area to gather impact statements in support of an injunction application against a prolific shoplifter targeting local retailers.

Other recent activity has included:

  • 48 instances monitouring a location and provide re-assurance
  • 7 anti social behaviour warnings issued
  • 13 individuals/ groups warned/advised regarding their conduct
  • 3 incidents were brought to the attention of the police
  • 15 instances dealing with street homelessness/ begging

The team's important in-person liaison with the area's communities has included meetings with retail staff (95) and public (47), as well as intelligence gathering and reassurance.

Help us tackle repeat shoplifters in the Angel

The BID’s Business Crime Team, in collaboration with the Council’s Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) Case Management Team, is working hard to stop prolific and repeat shoplifters operating in the Angel area.

To secure long-term solutions—including civil injunction orders—we need your continued support.

We are asking local businesses to provide impact statements outlining how persistent shoplifting is affecting your premises, staff, and daily operations. These statements are essential in helping us demonstrate to the courts the seriousness and ongoing impact of offenders’ actions.

Providing a statement does not usually require you to attend court, but your input plays a key role in helping us build stronger cases and secure legal measures to protect the area.

A big thank you to those of you who have already provided statements—your support is making a real difference.

As BID members, your safety and success are our priority. If you need assistance with submitting an impact statement or want to discuss a concern, please don’t hesitate to contact us. Together, we can create a safer, more secure Angel.

A warm welcome to PC Sophie Plumb

The Buisness Crime Team are delighted to welcome PC Sophie Plumb, who is going to be working alongside the team, with colleague PC Laura Brand.

Sophie said, "I joined the MET in 2007 as a PCSO on a Neighbourhood team in Bromley. My team covered The Glades Shopping Centre and the High Street, so I was dealing with anti-social behaviour and shoplifting daily. In 2009 I joined as a Police Officer and was posted to Response Team in Croydon. I worked the riots in 2011 (that was an eye opener!), before moving to Safer Neighbourhoods in 2013. Our Sergeant ran the team like a mini task force and we were always doing operations, warrants and generally disrupting the criminal fraternity. I had some of the best moments of my career on Neighbourhoods.

In 2016 I transferred to Camden and went back to Response Team, where I gained my driving & Taser qualifications. I’ve gone full circle and have arrived back on Neighbourhoods where I will be working alongside PC Laura Brand on the BID.

I am very much looking forward to working with you all and getting stuck into the next challenge!"
