Find out more about the history of Christmas in the Angel with this FREE walking tour

This year, Angel BID and London on the Ground have teamed up to offer this free tour as part of our Glow in the Angel Christmas celebration.

This event is free to join but places are limited, so click here to sign up on Eventbrite.

Join this free Christmas-themed walk, led by local guide Jonathan Wober of London On The Ground, through Angel and the heart of Islington. Find out some of Angel Islington's associations with Christmas, which start with the name of the area! Upper Street, Islington's main road and liveliest thoroughfare, is particularly magical in the build-up to Christmas. Delve into its colourful past and enjoy its equally vibrant present through its eclectic range of shops, restaurants, theatres, pubs and cafes.

On this walk you will:

  • Learn the origins of the area's Christmassy name.
  • Discover Islington's connections with the history of pantomime.
  • Hear about the Business Design Centre's Christmas heritage.
  • See an epic year-round Christmas decoration and a permanent nativity scene.

Start: Outside Angel tube station, Islington High Street, N1 8XX. Finish: a short walk from Highbury & Islington tube station.

The walk is free, but please reserve your place here in advance to avoid disappointment.
