The BID employs a team of experienced staff to deliver the business plan for levy payers.
Ben Stephenson
Chief Executive
I work two days a week as the BID’s Chief Executive, supporting the team, delivering projects, setting the strategy and reporting to the board of Angel businesses.
Tracy Henshaw
BID Manager
I run the BID’s operations on a day-to-day basis, directing the activities of our recycling team and public realm manager and liaising with the council to make sure the area looks its very best. I also manage the finances and deal with member enquiries.
Jan Hart
Programme Manager
I lead the security team and oversee areas including licensing, event logistics and regulatory issues the BID deals with internally and for members.
Marketing Manager
Marketing Manager
My job is to promote the Angel. We have two strands of communication work: talking to levy payers and developing them as a network, and talking to local residents, consumers, and visitors to the Angel about what there is to see and do here.
Omar Mohamud
Place Manager
I work as general support to the BID, visiting businesses, monitoring the environment, keeping our membership records up-to-date and helping to organise and deliver events.
Gerry Morgan
Business Crime Officer
I work with police, businesses and visitors to reduce crime and the impact of crime. I also support our three networks, Business Watch, Pubwatch and the Business Crime Reduction Partnership, and help develop crime reduction policy.
Recycling Team
Recycling Team
You can call on us to take bulky waste, drop off recycling bags and recycle stuff like office furniture, which we try to find new homes for in local charities.
Board of directors
Our Board reflects the wide variety of business sectors and sizes at the Angel. Members give their time and skills for free. We hold regular meetings to develop policy, provide strategic direction and support, agree budgets, plus performance monitoring and corporate governance. We always welcome applications from any business interested in joining our board.
Nick Segal
Company Secretary and Owner of Frederick’s Restaurant
Family restaurant business Frederick’s was started by Nick’s father Lou and 2019 sees its 50th anniversary as one of the leading restaurants in the Angel. Nick trained as a chartered accountant, has a variety of other business interests, and has been an active member of our Business Improvement District since it began.
Matthew Crawford
Managing Director and Joint Founder of After Noah
Matthew is the Managing Director and joint founder of After Noah (based in Upper Street), an industry leader in selling and restoring vintage and contemporary furniture. Matthew has been a member of the Angel Islington BID Board for more than a decade and has particular involvement in the Angel Community Safety Zone.
Adam Cummins
Centre Manager at Angel Central shopping centre
Adam is an Associate Director at Lambert Smith Hampton and is the Centre Manager for Angel Central shopping centre. Passionate about sustainability and engaging with the local community to create an inclusive and safe environment, Adam is keen to partner local businesses to develop the compelling offering for residents, workers and visitors.
Louise Dawson
Managing Partner at Bolt Burdon solicitors
Louise is a Managing Partner at Bolt Burdon solicitors, located in the heart of Upper Street and whose clients include local businesses and residents. Louise has both lived and worked in Islington since 2008, so making Angel the best place possible to live and work is something that she is passionate about.
David Gibson
Founder of David Gibson Architects
David is the founder of David Gibson Architects. Having trained as a modernist architect with James Stirling and Colin St. John Wilson, David believes that good architecture in ordinary circumstances improves the world. David has been involved in many Islington organisations making sure the environment is both preserved and improved to better the quality of people’s lives.
Dominic Jones
Group Chief Executive at Business Design Centre
Dominic has worked at an icon of the Angel, the Business Design Centre, for more than 25 years and has been its Chief Executive since 1999. Passionate about the Angel as a whole, Dominic brings great insight to the Board in terms of business and employee development. David is also a Director of Upper Street Events based in the Angel.
Martin Klute
Councillor, St Peter’s Ward Islington
Martin has been an Islington councillor since 2006 and is Chairman of Islington Council's Planning Committee. Professionally, Martin works for a local architectural practice, giving him a good understanding of the built environment and planning issues. Martin sees Angel Islington BID as a means of developing links between local businesses and the residential community in terms of employment, amenity and security.
Eric Sorensen
Chair of Angel Association
Eric Sorensen is a long-standing local resident and chairs the Angel Association. Eric has extensive experience in regeneration and promoting urban development, especially in Docklands and East London. Eric is also a Board Member of the Mayor of London's Development Corporation at Park Royal.
Paul Williams
Director at Savills Estate Agents
Paul has worked in the property world exclusively in Islington since 1986 and has intimate and extensive knowledge of the market and the local trading environment. Paul was Managing Director of Holden Matthews when it successfully merged with international property company Savills in 2005. Since this date, Paul took on a Director role at Savills and overseas the property market in north and east London. Paul also has links with the Almeida Theatre based in the Angel.
Nathan Nagaiah
Chairman of Finance, Audit and Risk at National Autistic Society
Nathan FRSPH FRSA FIMA is an experienced executive senior leader with expertise in strategic development, growth, finance and data management. Nathan is passionate about transforming the lives of young people and adults. As a Corporate Advisor, he currently advises Scotland Yard (Met Police) on the Specialist Firearms Unit (SCO19), Detention and Custody Unit (MO9) and Race Relations (CRIAG). With a national standing, including as a Principal Examiner, Nathan has established successful relationships with senior stakeholders across the UK.
